Employees in this assignment serve in the Dietitian (Clinical) position within the Nutrition Services at the Central Ohio VA Healthcare System. The Clinical Dietitian acts as a Medical Nutrition expert for Primary Care PACT teams, coordinating the nutrition care of Veterans with other healthcare providers, the Veteran, the Veteran's caregiver, and the community.

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements

• Citizenship: Be a citizen of the United States (U.S.). Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with 38 U.S.C. § 7407(a).
• Registration: (1) All applicants must hold the RDN credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Note: Applicants with the RDN credential have met the education requirement (e.g., bachelor's degree or higher). (2) Exception for Dietitians without RDN: Non-credentialed Dietitians who meet basic qualifications and fulfill specific requirements may be given a temporary appointment not exceeding one year.

Grade Determinations

Dietitian (Clinical), GS-07

• Experience or Education: None beyond the basic requirements.
• Assignment: Entry-level position under guidance, developing skills in nutrition assessments, applying evidence-based guidelines, and ensuring quality patient care.

Dietitian (Clinical), GS-09

• Experience: At least one year of experience at the next lower grade or a master's degree.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to deliver patient care using the NCP, interpret research, develop patient goals, and collaborate with stakeholders.
• Assignment: Performs complex tasks, applies evidence-based practices, and utilizes virtual care technology.

Dietitian (Clinical), GS-11

• Experience: At least one year as an RDN equivalent to the next lower grade.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Advanced skills in patient care, research interpretation, data analysis, and stakeholder collaboration.
• Assignment: Conducts comprehensive assessments, applies guidelines independently, leads performance improvement activities, and collaborates extensively with food service and leadership staff.
