Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Dietitian at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

Clinical

• Provides medical nutrition therapy to JTCC patients on referral from healthcare professionals based on established high risk screening criteria or patient self-referral.
• Develops, implements, documents, and evaluates nutrition care plans based on assessment and evidence-based guidelines.
• Confer with physicians and medical staff to provide personalized medical nutrition therapy.
• Reviews patient medical records and conducts interviews to assess nutritional needs.
• Counsels patients and families on nutrition topics including side effects of cancer treatment, maintaining nutrition during and after treatment, and diet adaptations.
• Develops and evaluates educational materials used at JTCC.
• Collaborates with inpatient dietitians and external facilities for comprehensive care.
• Adapts care to meet the needs of diverse patient populations.
• Adheres to organizational standards.
• Hours are primarily during the day Monday-Friday, with evening and weekend hours as needed.

Cooking Studio and Educational Programs

• Develops and implements food and nutrition programs for patients, caregivers, and staff.
• Supports external nutrition programs and presents topics at community and professional events.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Bachelor's degree in nutrition or dietetics from an accredited institution.
• Computer literacy.

Licenses and Certifications

• Registered Dietitian (RD).
• Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition (CSO) - preferred.
