Description:This position is responsible for providing medical nutrition therapy to patients, employees, and the community in accordance with organizational values.This position ensures patient satisfaction, quality care, regulatory compliance, and good public relations are achieved through the safe and efficient use of resources.Direct patient care includes establishing and implementing a standardized Nutrition Care Process to identify and treat patients requiring Medical Nutrition Therapy.Monitors and evaluates patient tolerance to therapeutic diets when appropriate.Develops and provides nutrition education and counseling to patients, family members, and caretakers.Incorporates current evidence-based research into practice.Indirect patient care includes establishing and implementing a Nutrition Care Process for patients.Performs and documents nutrition assessments.Maintains pertinent patient data necessary to recommend, prescribe, or modify therapeutic diets as needed to meet nutritional needs.Writes and approves orders for therapeutic nutrition, dietary supplements, and nutritional supplements.Collaborates with other hospital services to plan and implement patient care as necessary in meeting nutritional needs.Completes required documentation, reports, and logs in a timely, professional, and thorough manner.Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.Adheres to facility confidentiality and patient rights policy as outlined in HIPAA policies and procedures.Follows organizational policies and procedures.Participates in the Quality Assessment/Performance Improvement Program.Collaborates with the Clinical Nutrition team to approve the nutrition care manual, patient menus, and nutritional supplements and enteral nutrition products.Attends weekly meetings.Actively seeks out learning opportunities, seeks help or guidance, asks for and applies feedback, learns from mistakes, and tracks own progress and development.Leads change by positive example and gets the team on board for change initiatives and supports them during the process.Assists with the orientation and training of dietetic interns and staff, as needed.
