Job Description And Duties

METROPOLITAN STATE HOSPITAL – Located in Norwalk, Los Angeles County.

The Department of Dietetics has a full‑time, permanent vacancy for a Dietetics Assistant Director. The position manages the operating functions of Nutrition Services clinical area and Clinical Dietitians. Responsibilities include:

• Reviewing and revising staff units/caseloads based on operational needs.
• Completing audits of dietitians’ nutrition assessments.
• Reviewing nutrition curriculum for patient education and attending dietitian groups/classes.
• Reviewing and revising all clinical related policies on an annual basis.
• Reviewing and revising diet manual.
• Overseeing enteral nutrition inventory and ordering based on patient needs.
• Attending administrative and departmental meetings as required and participating in various committees.

Minimum Qualifications

• Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (applicants eligible for registration will be admitted to the examination but must become registered to be eligible for appointment).
• Either:

1. One year of experience in California State Service performing the duties of a classification with a level of responsibility equivalent to Registered Dietitian.
2. One year of clinical or administrative experience in dietetic practice.

• Education: Equivalent to graduation from college with a major in dietetics or institutional management from a coordinated undergraduate dietetic program or a formalized post‑baccalaureate education program approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
• Eligibility Examination: Candidates must have eligibility by way of permanent civil service status, be reachable on an employment list, have transfer eligibility, or have reinstatement eligibility. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure they meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the announcement as of the date the test is taken.
