Description
Dietetic Technician
The Dietetic Technician supports the provision of general nutrition care for patients, residents, and customers. Through collaboration and communication with the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD/RDN) and operational leaders, serves as a nutrition resource to assigned care areas/service lines and foodservice staff to ensure the provision of safe, high quality care. Maintains professional and business practices to assure regulatory compliance and to uphold company mission, values, and commitments made in the Sodexo client contractual agreement Contributes to financial and clinical outcomes through implementation of services. The general responsibilities of the position include those listed below, but may identify other responsibilities of the position.
General Responsibilities
- Participates in the implementation of the Nutrition Care Process in general clinical practice through nutrition screening and data collection to support the RDN in assessment and nutrition diagnosis.
- Completes other tasks as delegated by the RDN to support intervention, monitoring and evaluation; is accountable for the provision of safe and reliable care and services, including referral to the RDN when a higher level of care is warranted.
- Completes documentation in accordance with individual and statutory scope of practice, regulatory standards, and facility policies, protocols and practice guidelines.
- Provides evidence-based nutrition education, guidance and training as assigned by the RDN or operations leaders to meet basic clinical needs, promote overall health & wellness, educate personnel, interns and students on nutrition care strategies, and support foodservice staff competency.
- Functions within established educational, operational and documentation guidelines using resources as provided and initiates referrals as needed to elevate care, support continuation/adjustment of nutrition care plans or enhance educational processes.
- Supports nutrition and foodservice operations through completion of assigned duties including, but not limited to, implementation of programs/services to meet regulatory and operational standards and performance improvement activities to drive practice.
- Uses resources as provided and applies standardized operating procedures, policies, and protocols to complete work assignments; escalates information to the RDN and operations leaders as needed to ensure safe, high quality service and elevate customer experience.
- Contributes to the interdisciplinary/interprofessional team as a food and nutrition resource, participating in activities as assigned by the RDN or operations leaders and supporting the RDN in establishing and strengthening collaboration with care teams and/or foodservice/culinary teams.
- Communicates with the RDN or operations leaders to relay information as needed to address issues of concern, promote effective decision-making, and/or elevate care or services when a higher level of clinical expertise or authority is required.
- Continually improves performance and demonstrates professional growth by advancing food and nutrition-related skills and engaging in tailored continuing education to enhance knowledge, skills and judgment obtained in formal education.
- Complies with all HACCP policies and procedures.
- Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
- Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
- Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.
- Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Job Qualifications:
Experience/Knowledge
- Associate’s degree with completion of required coursework and supervised practice in a Dietetic Technician Program as dictated by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), Bachelor’s degree with completion of required coursework in a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) as dictated by ACEND, or required coursework and supervised practice in a Certified Dietary Manager Program as dictated by the Certifying Board for Dietary Managers (CBDM)
- 0 to 1 year work experience.
