Job summary

Los Angeles Jewish Health is seeking a Dietetic Technician to support our dietary services at our long-term care facilities in the San Fernando Valley. The role emphasizes nutrition care planning, diet order compliance, and resident-focused service.

The successful candidate will have a B.S. in Dietetics or related field or completed Dietetic Technician program and at least one year of experience in a hospital or long-term care setting, contributing to high-quality resident meals and nutrition

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Dietetics or Foods and Nutrition or completion of Dietetic Technician program in a community college to qualify for registration as a Dietetic Technician by the American Dietetic Association.
  • At least one year experience employed as a Dietetic Technician in a hospital or long term care facility.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the interpretation of dietary department policies and procedures to employees, residents, visitors, government agencies, etc.
  • Assist on the implementation of an ongoing quality assurance program for the Dietary Department/Medical Nutrition Therapy.
  • Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies.
  • Participate in maintaining records of the resident’s food likes and dislikes.
  • Ensure that resident tray cards reflect current diet order and food preference.
  • Visit residents periodically to evaluate the quality of meals served, likes and dislikes, etc.
  • Review with the clinical dietician dietary requirements of each resident admitted to the SNF portion of the facility, as may be required, and assist the attending physician in planning for the resident’s nutrition care.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary and appropriate, or as may be directed by the Food Services Director and/or Registered Dietician.
  • Assist in developing preliminary and comprehensive assessments of the nutritional needs of each resident. (SNF)
  • Assist in developing a written nutrition plan of care that identifies the nutrition problems/needs of the resident and the goals are accomplished for each nutrition problem/need identified.
  • Assist in developing preliminary and comprehensive assessments of the nutritional needs of each resident. (SNF)
  • Review nurses notes to determine if the care plan is being followed. Discuss problem areas with the Nursing Supervisor or Charge Nurse.
  • Ensure that the care plan identifies any special equipment and utensils the resident may need (e.g. plate guard, weighted utensils, etc.)
  • Assist in reviewing and revising care plans and assessments as necessary, but at least quarterly.
  • Provide substitute foods of similar nutritive value to residents who refuse foods served.
  • Develop and maintain a good rapport with all services involved with the care plan to ensure that a team effort is achieved in developing the resident’s comprehensive plan of care.

Education

B.S. in Dietetics or Foods and Nutrition or completion of Dietetic Technician program in a community college to qualify for registration as a Dietetic Technician by the American Dietetic Association.
