POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary purpose of your job position is developing and directing the overall operation of the Dietary Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations governing our facility. You will ensure that quality nutritional services are provided daily and that the dietary department is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Role Responsibilities – Job Knowledge/Duties:
- Coordinate dietary services and activities with other related departments (e.g., Nursing, Housekeeping, Social Services).
- Assist in developing and implementing departmental policies, procedures, equipment, and supplies.
- Assist in assessing the dietary needs of each resident.
- Develop written dietary care plans identifying dietary problems and goals.
- Schedule and discuss care plans at committee meetings.
- Ensure dietary staff are aware of and use care plans in daily services.
- Identify any special equipment or utensils residents may need.
- Review and revise care plans quarterly as necessary.
- Provide substitute foods of similar nutritive value for residents refusing served foods.
- Competently use and maintain kitchen equipment.
- Inspect food storage and utility areas for upkeep and supply control.
- Process diet changes and new diets from nursing services.
- Identify and evaluate routine dietary functions, especially involving exposure to blood/body fluids.
- Plan dietary services for residents' discharge plans.
- Participate in facility surveys and inspections.
- Interview residents or families to obtain diet histories.
- Develop methods for assessing food quality and quantity.
- Maintain detailed dietary progress notes and menus.
- Liaise with families and residents, visit residents to evaluate meal quality.
- Involve residents/families in planning dietary objectives.
- Assist in planning and reviewing diet menus and plans per physician’s orders.
- Ensure residents receive nourishing snacks at bedtime.
- Perform daily rounds to ensure dietary duties are performed correctly.
- Attend mandatory meetings and in-services.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Administrator.
