Job summary

Horizon Recuperative Care – San Gabriel Valley in El Monte, CA is hiring a Cook to support our nutrition-focused meals for residents. You will maintain a safe kitchen environment, follow menus, and ensure meals meet dietary needs while upholding high hygiene standards.

Ideal candidates have hospital or long-term care cooking experience, knowledge of food safety, and a commitment to using minimally processed ingredients where possible.

Qualifications

• Experience as a cook in healthcare settings preferred but not required.
• Knowledge of food safety standards and infection control.
• Ability to prepare nutritious meals with attention to residents' needs.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe culinary environment in the facility with strict infection control procedures.
• Keep kitchen and equipment clean and organized; ensure safe food temperatures are maintained.
• Wash, clean, and store dishes after every meal.
• Follow provided menus to prepare nutritious meals considering residents' needs and preferences.
• Assist Health Department inspections if requested during shifts.
• Prepare nourishing meals and snacks using non-processed foods where possible.
• Report shortages or needs to the Culinary Lead and notify about equipment issues.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain a safe culinary environment in the facility using strict infection control procedures.
• Kitchen and equipment will be clean and organized at all times. Safe food temperatures will be maintained at all times according to regulations.
• Dishes will be cleaned and properly stored after every meal.
• Follow the provided food menu for nutritionally sound meals, with the needs and preferences of the residents kept in mind.
• Contact the Lead or Resident Services Manager to assist in Health Department inspections if they occur on your shift.
• Prepare and offer nourishing meals and snacks using as many non-processed foods as possible.
• Report shortages or needs of snacks or meal ingredients to the Culinary Lead.
• Report any broken or malfunctioning equipment to Culinary Lead immediately.
• May be asked to take extra shifts or help with special occasions.
• This may include early morning or evening hours.

Qualifications:

• Cook/Dietary experience in a hospital, skilled nursing care home or other related medical facility is preferred but not required.
• Experience in cooking a variety of food in large quantities.
• Food Handlers or Serv Safe certification.
• Experience with food preparation and nutrition.
