Job summary

Legacy Health & Rehabilitation is seeking a Dietary Cook to support residents by preparing nutritious, diet-compliant meals in a clean, safe kitchen.

You will follow approved menus and therapeutic diet orders, ensure portions meet standards, label and rotate stock, monitor temperatures, and maintain sanitation. Collaboration with the dietary team and adherence to infection prevention practices are essential.

Qualifications

• Patience, compassion, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude toward serving the elderly and individuals with disabilities.
• Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Previous cooking experience is preferred; healthcare or long‑term care experience is a plus.
• Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and infection prevention practices.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook meals according to approved menus, recipes, and therapeutic diet requirements
• Ensure meals are prepared, portioned, and served according to quality and food safety standards
• Review production sheets and resident diet orders to ensure accuracy
• Properly store, label, and rotate food items using FIFO (First In, First Out) practices
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment, workstations, and food preparation areas
• Monitor food temperatures and follow all state, federal, and facility food safety regulations
• Assist with meal service as needed and work collaboratively with the dietary team
• Follow all infection prevention, sanitation, Universal Precautions, and workplace safety procedures
