Job summary

Apploi is seeking a Cook to join our team in a healthcare setting. You will be responsible for preparing and serving meals in alignment with planned menus, ensuring palatability and proper portion control while adhering to safety and sanitation standards.

Collaborate with the dietary director and other departments to implement diet modifications and maintain accurate records. The role emphasizes resident care, quality service, and compliance with infection control policies.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
• Ability to make independent decisions and follow instructions.
• Ability to interact tactfully with residents, families, staff and external parties.

Responsibilities

• Review menus prior to preparation of food.
• Inspect special diet trays to ensure correct diet is served to residents.
• Complete necessary forms and reports as required.
• Coordinate food service with other departments as necessary.
• Work with the facility's dietitian and implement recommended changes.
• Prepare meals in accordance with planned menus and ensure appetizing presentation.
• Serve food according to portion control procedures.
• Prepare food for therapeutic diets and bedtime snacks as planned.
• Follow sanitary regulations and established policies; ensure safety by all personnel.
• Maintain adequate food and supply inventory; assist in storage and ordering.
• Honor residents' treatment decisions and document actions as required.

Responsibilities:

Administrative Functions:

• Review menus prior to preparation of food
• Inspect special diet trays to assure that the correct diet is served to the resident
• Perform administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms, reports, etc.
• Coordinate food service with other departments as necessary
• Work with the Facility's dietitian and implement recommended changes as required

Food Service Functions:

• Prepare meals in accordance with planned menus
• Prepare and serve meals that are palatable and appetizing in appearance
• Serve food in accordance with established portion control procedures
• Prepare food for therapeutic diets in accordance with planned menus
• Prepare and provide bedtime snacks

Safety and Sanitation:

• Prepare food in accordance with sanitary regulations as well as our established policies and procedures
• Ensure that safety regulations and precautions are followed at all times by all personnel
• Follow established Infection Control Precautions policies and procedures when performing daily tasks

Equipment and Supply Functions:

• Ensure that food and supplies for the next meal are readily available
• Assist in inventorying and storing in-coming food, supplies, etc.
• Recommend to the Dietary Director the equipment and supply needs of the department

Resident Rights:

• Honor the resident's refusal of treatment request
• Abide by the resident's participation in treatment decision
• Inform the resident of consequences of not participating in prescribed therapy and document such action in the resident's clinical record

Qualifications:

• Must possess the ability to make independent decisions, to follow instructions, and to accept constructive criticism
• Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies or personnel, and the general public
• Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc., and maintain the appearance of maintenance work areas
• Must have the ability to minimize waste of supplies, misuse of equipment, etc.
• Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
