Job summary

Horizon Center San Diego is hiring a Dietary Cook to support patient-centered meal services in a healthcare setting. The role emphasizes safe food handling, nutrient-rich menus, and collaboration with the Culinary Lead to ensure quality meals for residents.

Qualifications

• Hospital, skilled nursing, or medical facility kitchen experience preferred.
• Experience cooking large quantities.
• Food Handlers or Serv Safe certification.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe culinary environment with strict infection control.
• Kitchen and equipment kept clean and organized; monitor food temperatures.
• Dishes cleaned and stored after each meal.
• Follow the provided menu to prepare nutritionally sound meals.
• Assist in Health Department inspections when required.
• Prepare nourishing meals and snacks using minimally processed foods.
• Report shortages of ingredients to the Culinary Lead.
• Report broken equipment to the Culinary Lead immediately.
• May take extra shifts or assist during special occasions.
• Shift may include early morning or evening hours.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain a safe culinary environment in the facility using strict infection control procedures.
• Kitchen and equipment will be clean and organized at all times. Safe food temperatures willbe maintained at all times according to regulations.
• Dishes will be cleaned and properly stored after every meal.
• Follow the provided food menu for nutritionally sound meals, with the needs andpreferences of the residents kept in mind.
• Contact the Lead or Resident Services Manager to assist in Health Department inspections ifthey occur on your shift.
• Prepare and offer nourishing meals and snacks using as many non-processed foods aspossible.
• Report shortages or needs of snacks or meal ingredients to the Culinary Lead.
• Report any broken or malfunctioning equipment to Culinary Lead immediately.
• May be asked to take extra shifts or help with special occasions.
• This may include earlymorning or evening hours.

Qualifications:

• Must have 1+ years experience as a Cook.
• Cook/Dietary experience in a hospital, skilled nursing care home or other related medical facility is preferred but not required.
• Experience in cooking a variety of food in large quantities.
• Food Handlers or Serv Safe certification.
• Experience with food preparation and nutrition.
