Job description

The Dietary Clerk is responsible for receiving and processing all patient diet orders while maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures for safety, sanitation, and infection control.

Responsibilities and Duties
  1. Follow computer and printer procedures for diet order communications to ensure diets are ordered correctly.
  2. Receive incoming telephone calls, identify the department and message sheet, and communicate pertinent information to the Clinical Dietitian regarding patients' diet needs and questions.
  3. Keep CBORD card files updated with current patient diet orders.
  4. Organize patient marked menus in correct order before meal service times (three times daily) for designated patient care areas.
  5. Maintain a neat, clean, and organized work area.
  6. Check modified diet menus under supervision and charge via computer for patient tube feedings according to procedures.
  7. Assist in training staff for the Dietary Clerk position as needed.
  8. Follow safety rules consistently, know fire safety procedures, practice good personal hygiene, and dress appropriately.
  9. Communicate effectively with nursing personnel and Nutrition Services staff.
  10. Complete required in-services on schedule.
  11. Fill in as Hospitality Associate as needed.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Ability to perform mathematical computations and record keeping.
  • Legible handwriting skills.
  • Basic knowledge of computers.
  • On-the-job training provided.
