Job Purpose

Assists with food preparation in accordance with established procedural guidelines, as directed by the Dietary Manager or supervisor. Follows facility procedures for storing, serving, and transporting food and supplies. Responsible for cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Follows diet orders and NPO diet orders.
• Assists in preparing meals, desserts, and snacks for patients/residents.
• Uses proper food handling processes, procedures, and policies.
• Delivers trays and serves meals to patients/residents.
• Prepares between-meal nourishments and offers menu substitutions.
• Communicates effectively with patients/residents and family members, providing friendly and professional service.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

• Maintains cleanliness of dining and work areas.
• Follows infection control policies.
• Washes dishes and records refrigerator temperatures.
• Stores food and supplies appropriately.
• Operates kitchen equipment safely.
• Follows standardized recipes and uses serving equipment properly.
• Participates in surveys and continuing education.
• Follows safety procedures and respects patients' rights.

Minimum Education & Experience

Sufficient education to demonstrate functional literacy; no prior experience required, on-the-job training provided.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous food service or long-term care dietary experience is preferred.
