Job description

General Purpose

The dietary aide's assignments are determined based on the activity level of each shift. The dietary aide reports to the Cook and Dietary Supervisor.

Essential Duties

  1. Learn food service routines quickly.
  2. Set up meal trays.
  3. Strip down returned trays and start washing dishes.
  4. Assist with serving meals.
  5. Check and record chlorine concentration and water temperature of the dishwashing machine at the beginning of each shift.
  6. Monitor water temperatures during dishwashing cycles.
  7. Operate the dishwasher.
  8. Prepare nourishments and snacks.
  9. Sweep and mop the kitchen.
  10. Handle trash and garbage disposal.
  11. Store groceries safely, neatly, and hygienically.
  12. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen, assisting the cook or dietary supervisor as needed.
  13. Clean work surfaces and refrigerators.
  14. Maintain floors by sweeping and mopping.
  15. Participate in orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff.
  16. Work cooperatively and harmoniously with personnel across all departments.

Supervisory Requirements

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read technical procedures, follow recipes, and communicate effectively with managers and staff.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and interpret various instructions (written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled).
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must obtain and maintain a food handler's certificate.

Physical Demands

The role requires frequent standing and walking, occasional sitting, and frequent reaching, pushing, pulling, talking, hearing, tasting, and smelling. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and perform occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, with the ability to adjust focus.
