Job description

Dietary Aide (Full-Time) - Antelope Valley Care Center (Food Services)

General Purpose

The dietary aide's assignments are determined based on the activity of the shift. He/she reports to the Cook and Dietary Supervisor.

Essential Duties

  1. Learn food service routines quickly.
  2. Set up meal trays.
  3. Strip down returned trays and start washing dishes.
  4. Assist with serving different meals.
  5. Check and record chlorine concentration and water temperature of the dishwashing machine at the beginning of the shift.
  6. Observe water temperatures during dishwasher cycles.
  7. Operate dishwasher.
  8. Prepare nourishments and snacks.
  9. Sweep and mop the kitchen.
  10. Carry out trash and garbage disposal.
  11. Store groceries safely and neatly.
  12. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen and assist when called upon by the cook or dietary supervisor.
  13. Clean work surfaces and refrigerators.
  14. Maintain floors by sweeping and mopping.
  15. Participate in orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff.
  16. Work cooperatively with personnel across all departments.

Supervisory Requirements

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read technical procedures, follow recipes, and communicate effectively with managers and staff.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions practically.
  • Reasoning Ability: Capable of solving practical problems and understanding instructions in various formats.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must obtain and maintain a food handler's certificate.

Physical Demands

This role requires frequent standing, walking, reaching, pushing/pulling, talking, hearing, tasting, and smelling. It involves lifting up to 50 pounds frequently, with occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Good vision for close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception is necessary.
