General Purpose

The dietary aide's assignments are determined based on the activity of the shift and the needs of the department. He/she reports to the Cook and Dietary Supervisor.

Essential Duties

1. Learn food service routines quickly.
2. Set up meal trays.
3. Strip down returned trays and start washing dishes.
4. Assist with serving meals.
5. Check and record chlorine concentration and water temperature of the dishwashing machine at the beginning of each shift.
6. Observe water temperatures during dishwashing cycles.
7. Operate the dishwasher.
8. Prepare nourishments and snacks.
9. Sweep and mop the kitchen.
10. Carry out trash and garbage disposal.
11. Store groceries safely, orderly, and cleanly.
12. Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen environment and assist the cook or dietary supervisor as needed.
13. Clean work surfaces and refrigerators.
14. Sweep, mop, and maintain floors.
15. Participate in orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff.
16. Work cooperatively with personnel across departments.

Supervisory Requirements

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Language Skills: Ability to read technical procedures and recipes; effective communication with managers and employees.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions in practical situations.
• Reasoning Ability: Capable of solving practical problems and interpreting instructions in various formats.
• Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must obtain and maintain a food handler's certificate.

Physical Demands

Requires standing/walking frequently, sitting occasionally, reaching, pushing/pulling, talking/hearing, tasting/smelling frequently, lifting up to 50 pounds, and occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Good vision and focus are necessary.
