Job summary

New Hanover House in Wilmington, NC, is seeking a Dietary Aide to join our culinary team and help provide nutritious, high-quality meals to residents. The role supports meal prep, serving, sanitation, and adherence to dietary plans in a compassionate, resident-focused environment.

Responsibilities include assisting with meal service, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, following safety protocols, helping with inventory, and collaborating with the dietary team to ensure a positive dining experience

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience in food service preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Ability to follow directions and work efficiently as part of a team.
  • Compassion for and a desire to work with the elderly.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Meal Assistance: Help prepare, portion, and serve meals to residents according to dietary plans and special requests.
  • Sanitation & Cleanliness: Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen and dining areas; wash dishes and equipment as needed.
  • Resident Support: Assist with meal setup, serving, and ensuring a positive dining experience.
  • Food Safety: Follow all food safety protocols, proper storage and handling.
  • Inventory Support: Assist in receiving and storing food, check inventory, and notify shortages.
  • Team Collaboration: Work with the dietary team to ensure smooth kitchen and dining operations.
  • Resident Engagement: Fulfill special dietary requests and respect residents' preferences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Meal Assistance: Help prepare, portion, and serve meals to residents according to dietary plans and special requests.
  • Sanitation & Cleanliness: Assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization in the kitchen and dining areas. Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment as needed.
  • Resident Support: Provide meal assistance to residents as needed, including helping with meal setup and serving, and ensuring a positive dining experience.
  • Food Safety: Follow all food safety protocols, including proper food storage, handling, and sanitation practices, to ensure food is safe for consumption.
  • Inventory Support: Assist in receiving and storing food and supplies, checking inventory, and notifying the Dietary Manager of any shortages or supply needs.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the dietary team to ensure the kitchen and dining areas run smoothly, assisting with food prep and meal service as directed.
  • Resident Engagement: Assist in fulfilling special dietary requests and ensuring residents’ individual preferences and needs are met during meal times.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Previous experience in a food service role (preferred, but not required)
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
  • Ability to follow directions and work efficiently as part of a team
  • Compassion for and a desire to work with the elderly
