General Purpose
Performs various duties associated with the production and service of patient meals.
Responsible to: Directory of Dietary / Dietary Manager / Assistant Dietary Manager / Cook
Qualifications:
- Must have a sincere interest in foodservice and enjoy working with geriatric and other healthcare patients.
- Must have, or be willing to learn, food preparation and simple cooking skills.
- Must have knowledge of, or be willing to learn, therapeutic and modified diet information to use in preparing and serving patient trays.
- Must have knowledge of, or be willing to learn, correct sanitation procedures and use these on a daily basis.
- Must be willing to perform repetitive tasks daily.
- Must possess excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Must be able to follow oral and/or written instructions.
- Must be able to speak and understand English; reading skills may be required.
- Must be able to read and understand labels on chemicals and MSDS sheets and use these products safely and correctly.
- Must be in good mental and physical condition.
- Must work cooperatively and productively with all partners in Dietary and other departments, following established policies.
- Must be punctual and reliable, fulfilling responsibilities and scheduled shifts.
- May be required to have or obtain a Food Handlers Certificate or Sanitation Course, as required by state regulations.
- Must be able to work under supervision.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to stand or walk most of the workday, and perform bending, stooping, squatting, and twisting.
- Must be able to lift 50-60 pounds, sweep, mop, and push/pull carts.
- Must be able to climb ladders for cleaning or storage tasks.
- Must possess fine motor skills and manual dexterity.
- Must have adequate mental acuity to perform job requirements.
- Must be able to see and hear adequately to respond to requests and communicate effectively.
- Must be able to operate standard food service equipment safely.
- Must be able to taste and smell foods for quality assessment.
- Must withstand temperature changes and work in noisy, warm, moist, and odorous environments.
- Must work safely to avoid injuries and hazards.
- Must not have medical conditions that endanger self or others in the workplace.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities are determined by the center and may include, but are not limited to:
- Being a self-starter and making independent decisions when necessary.
- Understanding and complying with all relevant regulations (local, state, federal).
- Maintaining a safe, secure, and sanitary dietary department and reporting issues.
- Conserving supplies, preventing waste, and reporting needs to the Dietary Manager.
- Receiving, storing, and handling food and supplies properly.
- Cleaning and sanitizing dishes, utensils, and work areas.
- Assisting in food preparation and service, including therapeutic diets.
- Communicating effectively with staff, patients, and families.
- Setting up and serving trays, checking for accuracy and preferences.
- Cleaning and sanitizing dining areas and equipment.
- Participating in training sessions.
- Supervising in the absence of higher management, as assigned.
- Adhering to dress code and performing other appropriate tasks.
