Position Summary

The Dietary Aide performs a variety of unskilled duties while assisting in all areas in the kitchen. He/she is under the supervision of the Dietary Manager and/or Assistant Manager and reports to the Director of Dietary.

Qualifications

• Ability to speak and follow simple oral directions.
• Reading and writing skills.
• Ability to cooperate and work well with others.
• Some knowledge of modified diets.
• Basic cooking knowledge.
• Possession of Food Handler's Certificate may be required.
• Willingness to perform simple, repetitive tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Stand and walk short distances most of the working day.
• Lift 50 to 60 pounds as needed.
• Handle dishes, glassware, pots, and pans.
• Push food carts.
• Operate kitchen equipment of standard height and design.
• Bend, stoop, squat, and twist frequently.
• Perform cleaning tasks like mopping.
• Maintain mental alertness to perform job requirements.
• Respond to auditory and visual cues from patients and staff.
• Work safely around kitchen equipment to avoid injuries.
• Work in well-lit, noisy, warm, moist, and odorous environments.
• Withstand heat around stoves and ovens, cold in refrigerated areas, and temperature changes.
• No medical conditions that could endanger self or others during work.
