Job description

Dietary Aide (Food Services)

General Purpose

The dietary aide's assignments are determined based on the activity of the shift. He/she reports to the Cook and Dietary Supervisor.

Essential Duties

1. Learn food service routines quickly.
2. Set up meal trays.
3. Strip down returned trays and wash dishes.
4. Assist with serving meals.
5. Check and record chlorine concentration and water temperature of the dishwashing machine at the start of each shift.
6. Monitor water temperatures during dishwashing cycles.
7. Operate the dishwasher.
8. Prepare nourishments and snacks.
9. Sweep and mop the kitchen.
10. Handle trash and garbage.
11. Store groceries safely and neatly.
12. Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen environment and assist when called upon by the cook or dietary supervisor.
13. Clean work surfaces and refrigerators.
14. Sweep, mop, and maintain floors.
15. Participate in orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff.
16. Work cooperatively with personnel across all departments.

Supervisory Requirements

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

1. Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Language Skills: Ability to read technical procedures, follow recipes, and communicate effectively with managers and employees.
3. Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply concepts like fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
4. Reasoning Ability: Problem-solving skills and ability to interpret various instructions.
5. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must obtain and maintain a food handler's certificate.

Physical Demands

Requires standing, walking, reaching, pushing/pulling frequently; sitting occasionally; talking/hearing frequently; tasting/smelling frequently; lifting up to 50 pounds regularly; occasional climbing, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling; and visual acuity for various perceptions.
