Job summary

Center For Discovery in Glenview, IL is seeking a Diet Technician to support patients through the treatment experience from admission to discharge. You will assist with dietary services, prepare meals, maintain a clean kitchen, and ensure patient safety while collaborating with the dietitian and broader care team.

This role requires one year of dietary or nutrition experience, CPI, CPR/First Aid, ServSafe, and a state food handler permit, plus a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Experience or education in dietary or nutrition sciences.
• CPI, CPR/AED, First Aid, ServSafe within 90 days.
• Food handler permit is required.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Assist admissions and support new patients.
• Provide milieu management and communicate with the team.
• Assist in grocery shopping for the program and stock the kitchen.
• Comply with sanitation requirements per health regulations and Joint Commission standards.
• Prepare meals on shift and ensure correct portions and servings.
• Facilitate kitchen exposure with patients as directed by the dietitian and participate in dietary activities.

Education

One year of education or experience in dietary or nutrition sciences

CPI certification within 90 days of hire

CPR, AED, and First Aid certification within 90 days of hire

ServSafe certification within 90 days of hire

State required food handler’s permit

Job description

The Diet Technician (Diet Tech) is responsible for assisting and supporting patients through the entire treatment experience from admission through discharge.Diet Techs support the full dietary aspects of the treatment program. Diet Tech responsibilities primarily include offering dietary support, maintaining a clean and supplied kitchen, cooking for patients, ensuring patient safety, and providing support in the milieu.

Essential Job Functions:

• Assists with admissions process and supports new patients in the program.
• Provides milieu management throughout the treatment experience and communicates with all team members.
• Assists in grocery shopping for the program and ensures the kitchen is thoroughly stocked with a variety of foods.
• Complies with proper sanitation requirements in compliance with Department of Health, state regulations, and Joint Commission Accreditation standards.
• Prepares meals on shift, as assigned.
• Ensures implementation of accurate portions and servings.
• Facilitates kitchen exposure with patients as directed by the dietitian.
• Participates in all dietary activities, when requested by the dietitian.
• May support patients with their food choices.
• Conducts patient calorie counts weekly, when requested by the dietitian.
• Rotates emergency food supply twice a year, as assigned.
• Completes all shift notes, group notes, and other required documentation by the end of shift.
• Assists with discharge process.
• Works during meal periods to provide supervision and support to patients.

Education, and Experience:

• One year of education or experience in dietary or nutrition sciences
• Obtain CPI certification within 90 days of hire
• Obtain CPR, AED, and First Aid certification within 90 days of hire.
• Obtain ServSafe certification within 90 days of hire.
• Obtain state required food handler’s permit.
• Must possess a current Driver’s License and be in good standing.

Schedule: Tues-Sat 11a-7p

Compensation: Pay Range: $19-$21 hourly
