Discovery Mood seeks a Diet Technician to support patients through the treatment journey, handling dietary tasks, kitchen operations, and patient supervision on-site in McLean, VA.

The role requires certification within 90 days (CPI, CPR/AED/First Aid, ServSafe), a food handler’s permit, and a driver’s license, with duties spanning admissions, meals, calorie counts, and discharge assistance.

Qualifications

• One year of education or experience in dietary or nutrition sciences.
• CPI certification within 90 days of hire.
• CPR, AED, and First Aid certification within 90 days of hire.
• ServSafe certification within 90 days of hire.
• State required food handler’s permit.
• Must possess a current Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Assists with admissions process and supports new patients in the program.
• Provides milieu management throughout the treatment experience and communicates with all team members.
• Assists in grocery shopping for the program and ensures the kitchen is stocked with a variety of foods.
• Complies with sanitation requirements per Department of Health, state regulations, and Joint Commission standards.
• Prepares meals on shift, as assigned.
• Ensures implementation of accurate portions and servings.
• Facilitates kitchen exposure with patients as directed by the dietitian.
• Participates in all dietary activities when requested by the dietitian.
• Supports patients with their food choices.
• Conducts patient calorie counts weekly when requested by the dietitian.
• Rotates emergency food supply twice a year, as assigned.
• Completes shift notes, group notes, and other required documentation by end of shift.
• Assists with discharge process.
• Works during meal periods to provide supervision and support to patients.
