Wage Range: $21.14 - $32.43 per hour. Posted wage ranges represent the entire range from minimum to maximum. For jobs with more than one level, the posted range reflects the minimum of the lowest level and the maximum of the highest level. Some positions also offer additional premiums based on shift, certifications, or degrees. Job offers are determined based on a candidate's relevant experience, education level, and internal equity. Job Summary:
Responsible for performing office tasks that ensure accurate and efficient diet order taking of prescribed food to the patient.
Primary Duties:
- Receives and processes patient information and implements Dietician’s instructions to ensure nutritional care of all patients; maintains accurate patient records and diet ordering information.
- Takes meal orders from patients in person and over the telephone, using standardized terminology; answers menu/recipe questions and offers alternatives within diet order.
- Operates electronic Point of Service (POS) system and hospital software applications to ensure prompt and accurate meal ordering; follows up with kitchen and clinical staff as necessary.
- Retrieves meals from the kitchen; delivers trays to the patient, retrieves the tray after the patient is finished eating, and rounds with the patient to ensure satisfaction.
- Coordinates with nursing for medication before eating or delivering a tray.
- Expedites missing trays to ensure prompt service recovery.
- Monitors and documents food and fluid intake; reports levels to dietitian and nursing staff.
- Takes orders for visitors, charges correctly, and manages tray delivery and retrieval.
- Retrieves equipment, small wares, and trays from floors and returns them to the dish room for washing and sanitizing; cleans mobile carts after meals.
- Prepares and prints labels for tube feeding nourishments for proper patient identification.
- Records items sent after stocking nourishment centers and supplements into the computer for accurate inventory management.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
License, Certification, Education, or Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent; combination of education and experience.
- Valid Washington State 'Food and Beverage Workers' Permit.
- Clear communication skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Recent customer service experience, preferably in food/dietary services.
- Knowledge of safety, sanitation, and food handling standards.
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratios, and sequencing.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Food Services certification.
- Experience in hospital dietetics and diet therapy.
