Job summary

Sahling Kenworth in Kearney, NE is hiring diesel truck mechanics for both entry-level and experienced positions. Responsibilities include repair, troubleshooting and maintenance of Class 8 trucks, with emphasis on accurate repair orders and efficient problem solving.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; technical degree preferred
• 3–5 years of diesel mechanic experience for experienced techs
• Personal tool inventory to perform duties
• Effective written and oral communication skills
• Ability to obtain a Valid CDL
• Ability to read and interpret repair orders, schematics and bulletins
• Basic computer and Windows skills
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather
• Ability to work 8–10 hour days with overtime
• Lifting up to 50 lbs regularly; up to 100 lbs occasionally

Responsibilities

• Performs corrective and preventative maintenance on medium and heavy duty vehicles
• Troubleshoots electrical, drive train, HVAC, brakes, engine and suspension systems
• Writes repair orders detailing causes and procedures
• Uses diagnostic equipment to locate faults and determine repairs
• Reads repair orders and communicates repair needs to the shop foreman
• Obtains supervisor approval for repairs and additional work
• Coordinates with parts to obtain needed components
• Conducts road tests to verify repairs and isolate issues
• Tracks hours charged to each repair order
• Interacts with customers professionally and supports team mechanics
