Job summary

J.B. Hunt Transport, Inc. is seeking a Diesel Tractor Mechanic in Indianapolis, IN. This full-time role involves routine maintenance, servicing, and repair of tractors and equipment, with potential night and weekend shifts and outdoor work.

The technician will troubleshoot, follow safety procedures, and ensure repairs meet company specifications. Experience with diesel systems and DOT inspections is preferred; tool ownership is expected.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age with 1-2 years of experience in Semi-Tractor maintenance and repair and/or training and/or military equivalent experience; willingness to work outdoors, in the elements, or across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends.
• A/C Certification is preferred and beneficial for the role.
• DOT and FHWA inspections experience, and safety-focused mindset are important.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate proficient technical knowledge of preventative maintenance, replacement of parts/components, and more difficult repairs on tractors including fuel system, battery, engine, drive train, onboard computer, transmission, air brakes, and FHWA inspections.
• Assist with onboarding and mentoring Tractor Technician trainees.
• Participate in OE repairs training and stay updated on manufacturer specifications.
• Troubleshoot tractor issues, work independently and seek assistance as needed.
• Follow all shop safety procedures and maintain professional communication with JB Hunt personnel and customers.
• Complete work orders accurately and adhere to standard repair times and warranty guidelines.
