Job summary

Knight's Companies is seeking a Diesel Technician Level III to join the maintenance team. You will ensure safe, reliable operation of a diverse fleet and mentor Junior Technicians I and II, contributing to a collaborative, safety-first environment.

You will diagnose electrical and hydraulic systems, perform tire, oil, and filter services, and travel to plant facilities to provide on-site repair services. Strong diagnostics and tool knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Auto or diesel technology diploma from an accredited technical school preferred; or minimum of 5 years’ experience performing maintenance or mechanical work.
• ASE certifications preferred.
• Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B preferred.
• Ability to operate a manual transmission vehicle to determine proper operation.
• Must provide own hand tools & toolbox.
• Knowledge of handheld scanning tools and the diagnostic process.
• Ability to read schematics and familiarity with related processes.
• Proficient with computer skills: Excel, Word, Fleet Management Systems, and Email.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Change and repair tires per manufacturer specs.
• Perform oil and filter services on vehicles and equipment.
• Diagnostics and repairs on electrical systems (12V/24V) on fleet trucks and heavy machinery.
• Maintain power and hydraulic systems for safe operation.
• Assist Diesel Technicians I and II and share knowledge.
• Keep accurate records of maintenance and repairs.
• Adhere to safety protocols and regulatory standards.
• Perform on-site and off-site service calls to diagnose/repair trucks and equipment.
• Travel to plant facilities to provide on-site repair services.
• Diagnose and repair drive shafts, brakes, and pressurized water systems.
• Collaborate with Area Fleet Manager to maintain workflow.

Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Diesel Technician Level III to join our maintenance team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of a diverse fleet of vehicles and heavy equipment. You will also provide guidance and support to Diesel Technicians I and II, contributing to a collaborative and safety-focused work environment. What You'll Do:

• Change and repair tires in accordance with manufacturer specifications.


• Perform oil and filter services on a variety of vehicles including automobiles, concrete trucks, tractor-trailers, front-end loaders, and other equipment.


• Conduct diagnostics and repairs on electrical systems, ranging from auxiliary components such as lighting and switches to complex 12V and 24V electrical architectures on fleet trucks and heavy machinery.


• Assess and maintain power and hydraulic systems to ensure proper operation and safety standards.


• Assist and provide guidance to Diesel Technicians I and II, supporting team efforts and knowledge sharing.


• Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed.


• Adhere to safety protocols and ensure all work is completed in compliance with industry standards and regulations.


• Perform service calls to diagnose and repair off-site trucks and equipment using company service vehicle.


• Provide on-site repair services by traveling to plant facilities and vehicle locations.


• Diagnose and repair universal, slip joints, support bearings on drive shafts, air and hydraulic brake systems and pressurized water systems.


• Work closely with Area Fleet Manager to maintain positive workflow throughout the shop.


• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Valid Driver’s License required.


• High School Diploma/GED preferred.


• Auto or diesel technology diploma from an accredited technical school preferred; or minimum of 5 years’ experience performing maintenance or mechanical ability.


• ASE Certifications preferred.


• Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B preferred.


• Ability to operate a manual transmission vehicle to determine if it is operating properly.


• Must provide own hand tools & toolbox.


• Knowledge of handheld scanning tools and the process of diagnosing vehicles.


• Ability to read schematics and familiarity with the process.


• Proficient computer skills: knowledge of Excel, Word, Fleet Management Systems, and Email


• Strong written and verbal communication skills (documentation, communication with peers, supervisors, etc.)

Physical Demands:

• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. from floor to waist height.


• Ability to carry minimum of 50 lbs. over a 5-foot span.


• Ability to push / pull a minimum of 50 lbs. across a 10-foot span.


• Ability to lift a minimum of 20 lbs. from waist to shoulder.


• Use their hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.


• Ability to stand for extended periods of time.


• Ability to bend or twist body without restriction.


• Ability to kneel, stoop, crouch, or crawl.


• Ability to work in extreme weather, including but not limited to high heat, low temperature, and high sun environments.
