Job summary

Ballard Truck Center in West Springfield, MA is seeking a Diesel Technician to perform tractor and trailer repairs, diagnostics, and replacements following SOPs. You will complete routine rebuilds, preventive maintenance, and safety-critical decisions to keep vehicles on the road.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of diesel experience (Mack/Volvo a plus), strong communication, and basic computer skills. Must be able to lift 50 lbs and own essential tools; MSDS and safety training are required.

• Complete routine rebuilds and replacements; ensure safety and value.
• Perform preventive maintenance including lube, filters, inspections, and cosmetic upkeep of trucks.

Job Overview

The Diesel Technician will be responsible for performing all tractor and trailer repairing estimation diagnosis and correction following standard operating procedures (SOP’s). Completes routine rebuilds and replacements, makes best value and safety decisions to continue to operate, repair or replace, and performs technical repairs and/or replacement.

Duties & Responsibilities – Diesel Technician

• Follows workplace and vehicle safety procedures consistently.
• Follows MSDS training and guidelines.
• Able to perform proper Preventive Maintenance - lube, filters, inspection – includes truck appearance, interior and exterior, cab related, safety, security
• Basic electrical – repair and replace starters/alternators/batteries
• Inspect & replace basic engine components
• Proficient at brake diagnostic/repair& replace/adjustments
• Direct/Indirect labor accountability (completing personal paperwork)
• Follow good housekeeping standards
• Inspect & replace drive line components
• Remove and replace transmission and clutch (R&R)
• Advanced and continually upgrading tools
• Valve and injector adjustments
• Remove and replace steering & chassis components
• Basic welding & cutting 20. Fifth wheel service and rebuild/ king pin wear
• Remove & replace all engines
• Diagnostic Computer Skills
• Citation corrections/ sign off
• May perform accident repairs on tractors or trailers
• Responsible for completing all franchise mandated training (online and on site –travel may be required)
• Must be able to communicate with internal customers (i.e. other shop associates, drivers, other maintenance shops, etc.) on such things as stances, wait times, reasons for repair decisions and status updates.
• Perform any other duties as required.

Basic Requirements – Diesel Technician

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Be able to pass a background check and drug test
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent
• Must have a least 5+ years Diesel Technician experience; Mack and Volvo experience a plus
• Have excellent communication skills and be willing to work as part of a team
• Have at least basic computer skills
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs or more
• Own necessary basic tools
