Job summary

Ryder is hiring an experienced Mid‑Level Diesel Technician in Ypsilanti, Michigan — offering weekly pay, excellent benefits, and a technician career you can feel good about.

Compensation

• Hourly Pay: $26.50 per hour
• Certification Bonus: $100 for each new ASE certification obtained, up to $700
• Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 every quarter (four times per year)
• Sign‑on Bonus: $2,000 at 30 days and $2,000 at 90 days
• Schedule: Monday–Friday
• Hours: Second Shift, 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
• Vocational or technical certification, postsecondary degree or technical certifications (preferred)
• Basic tools required
• Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work)
• Two (2) years or more of a combination of classroom training and work experience (preferred)
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A (preferred)
• Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
• Pass a Ryder drug test
• Pass a DOT physical
• Pass a Ryder road test
• Pass a Ryder background and motor‑vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years

Responsibilities

• Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties
• Perform standard vehicle maintenance and component inspections and repairs
• Perform preventive maintenance
• Diagnose standard mechanical and electronic problems, utilizing diagnostic computer when applicable
• Identify root causes of basic failures/conditions and perform repairs as required
• Replace defective components as instructed
• Perform facility maintenance duties
• Interact with customers/drivers to determine the nature of complaints once a task is assigned
• Utilize key functions of the shop management system and electronic documentation available
• Work in accordance with all federal/provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT)
• Perform other support duties as needed to support operations, such as Service Island support
