Job summary

GTG Peterbilt in Waterloo, IA seeks experienced heavy-duty diesel technicians to perform service and repair on trucks. The role involves diagnosing defects, inspections, and ensuring repairs meet manufacturer specifications. You will work noon–8:30 pm in a newer shop with growth opportunities and training.

Qualifications

• Inspect and diagnose truck conditions based on inspections & tests.
• Test equipment after repair to ensure proper performance.
• Maintain records of service and repairs with accurate documentation.
• Perform engine overhauls and other repairs identified during diagnostics.
• Read schematics for electrical and air systems.
• Follow DOT, EPA, OSHA rules and maintain safe work practices.
• Own toolbox and work with minimal supervision.

GTG Peterbilt – Waterloo is a family-owned full service Peterbilt truck dealership serving eastern Iowa since 1973. We have worked hard to provide the trucking industry with the highest quality products, sold and serviced by dedicated people to provide the highest return for our customers.

We have immediate openings for EXPERIENCED, Medium/Heavy Duty Technicians. The successful candidate will perform service and repair on heavy duty trucks covering all makes and models. We are a newer shop to the Waterloo area, and we welcome you to grow with us. We have extended our hours to better serve our customers. This position will have the hours of noon - 8:30 pm.

Requirements

• Determine unit condition by conducting inspections & diagnostic test, identifying deficiencies.
• Test equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications; make necessary adjustments if required.
• Perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.
• Maintain cost efficiency by using warranty, evaluating service & parts options.
• Maintain vehicle records with an accurate documentation of service and repairs.
• Complete engine overhauls as well as other repairs identified during the diagnostic process.
• Read schematics for electrical and air systems.
• Use good judgment to maintain a safe & organized work environment.
• Accept ownership for accomplishing new & different requests & exploring value added opportunities.
• Apply knowledge and work in accordance with DOT, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and other rules and regulations as required.
• Other general shop duties as assigned.

Skills

• Solid working knowledge of power tools required to perform all phases of truck/chassis repair and maintenance.
• Strong mechanical aptitude.
• At higher levels of experience demonstrate ability to perform all phases of heavy-duty diesel equipment and services.
• Professional and safety minded at all times.
• Excellent communication both verbal and written, listening skills.
• Good customer service skills.
• Ability to prioritize and multi-task in fast-paced environment.
• Work with minimal supervision and direction.

Education

• Preferred minimum of High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Certifications from OEM's in the trucking industry a plus.
• Preferred- 2 years of tech school and 2 years of experience in heavy duty truck repair or 3-5 years of actual truck or heavy equipment repair experience.
• Combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Requirements:

• Valid driver’s license and be insurable. CDL preferred
• Must be able to pass mandatory pre-employment drug screen and background check.
• Must have own toolbox and tools.
• Steel toe shoes or boots needed. $250 allowance offered after initial 90 day training and evaluation period.

Additional Information:

Physical: Working in, under, and around trucks and trailers. Ability to lift, push or pull, objects of various shapes, sizes and weights. Safely walk, reach, bend, climb, push, twist, squat and kneel as necessary to perform the essential job duties. Safely walk and stand for extended periods of time.

Environmental: Primarily indoors with some outdoor work. High noise level. Uniforms, ear and eye protection provided.

Hours: 12:00 pm - 8:30 pm
