Job Description
Primary Accountabilities:

The Diesel Technician is responsible for the maintenance, servicing and completion of repairs requested by the customer to ensure they are in safe and proper working condition that aligns with Hoyt’s Service Standards. The position encompasses 3 key areas with duties pertaining to each.

  1. Inspection & Diagnostics
    1. Perform routine inspections to identify issues with diesel engines, transmissions, and electrical systems
    2. Use diagnostic equipment to identify issues in engines, exhaust systems, braking systems, and other vehicle components
  2. Preventative Maintenance & Repairs
    1. Perform scheduled preventative maintenance jobs like oil changes, filter replacements, brake adjustments and tire rotations that prevent major breakdowns and ensure vehicles operate efficiently.
    2. Repair or replace faulty parts, such as engine components, fuel systems, and electrical systems.
    3. Assist with service calls and roadside repairs for customers as needed.
    4. Communicate with the Service Coordinator for all parts needed to complete repair.
  3. Administration
    1. Maintain detailed records of all inspections, maintenance and repairs completed.
    2. Conduct safety checks to ensure all trucks and trailers meet all legal and regulatory requirements.
    3. Maintain a clean and safe work environment, ensuring proper use of tooling and equipment.
    4. Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while staying up to date on all safety training.
    5. Pursue additional training opportunities including but not limited to Autocar, Allison Transmission, Cummins and other certifications.
Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED certificate.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience as a technician or related work.
  • Ability to work on a team, communicate clearly and efficiently, while maintaining professionalism in a shop environment.
  • Ability to understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to follow health and safety regulations.
  • Physical Demands:
    • Ability to stand, lift, carry, push, pull, balance, stoop, reach, handle, talk, hear, see, grasp, move head and neck and movement across mid-line.
    • Ability to lift/carry up to seventy-five (75) pounds
    • Finger dexterity, manual dexterity, alertness, precision, motor coordination, auditory discrimination and tactile discrimination.
  • Work Environment:
    • Work conducted mostly on the shop floor with vehicles and equipment.
    • Noise level is usually moderate to loud.
