Job summary

Kalmbach Feeds is seeking a diesel mechanic to maintain, repair, and overhaul our fleet, including semi-tractors and trailers. You will inspect and test equipment at prescribed intervals and after breakdowns, disassemble worn parts, and fit new ones.

The role is team-oriented, with no weekend work, and offers competitive pay and benefits. A high school diploma and 3–5 years of hands-on experience or a certified diesel mechanic credential are required; Class A CDL is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Diesel Mechanic or 3–5 years hands-on experience.
  • Has minimum hand tools for heavy truck repair, major tools supplied.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain equipment to standards set by FMCSA/DOT inspections and safety standards.
  • Disassemble and replace worn or broken parts; fit and adjust new parts.
  • Inspect and test equipment at prescribed intervals or after malfunction.
  • Record all work and parts used in web-based records system; complete paperwork.
  • Notifies supervisor of potentially dangerous equipment and corrective action taken.
  • May drive facility tow truck to retrieve broken-down vehicles.
  • Basic knowledge of hydraulics preferred.
  • Team-oriented work with drivers and other mechanics.
  • Welding/fabrication experience preferred.

Job description

The Diesel Mechanic’s primary responsibilities are to maintain, repair, and overhaul all types of vehicles and equipment, including semi-tractors, trailers, automobiles, etc., for in-facility and outside delivery purposes. This position is vital to the success of our business, as it is the mechanic’s role to inspect and test equipment at prescribed intervals of time and usage, or upon malfunction or breakdown. The mechanic will disassemble and replace worn or broken parts, while fitting and adjusting new or repaired parts. The mechanic will enjoy a flexible schedule with no weekends.

  • Maintain equipment to standards set by Federal Motor Carrier & DOT for motor vehicle inspections and safety standards.
  • Air brake certified preferred
  • Uses hoist, wrenches, gauges, drills or grinders, or other specialized auto mechanic tools and equipment.
  • Performs limited bodywork and repainting on vehicles after a breakdown or accident.
  • Fuels, oils, and greases motor vehicles; changes filters.
  • Record all work and parts used in web based records system.
  • Completes all necessary paperwork.
  • Notifies supervisor of potentially dangerous equipment and corrective action taken.
  • May drive facility tow truck to retrieve broken-down vehicles away from facility.
  • Basic knowledge of hydraulics preferred
  • Work well with drivers and other mechanics in a Team-oriented environment.
  • Welding/fabrication experience preferred.
Who You Are:
  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Diesel Mechanic or 3 to 5 years hands on experience
  • Has minimum hand tools for heavy truck repair, major tools will be supplied.
  • Frequently works in a crouched position or on back lying on mechanic’s dolly beneath motor vehicle equipment; subjected to dust, dirt, and grease conditions
  • Work well on a team dedicated to proper fleet maintenance
  • Valid state driver's license
  • Class A CDL (preferred)
  • Can work as part of a team as well as alone.
