The Heavy Equipment Technician/Mechanic is responsible for supporting the Evergreen Roadworks company with the maintenance, repair, and diagnostic troubleshooting of heavy machinery and equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, oil trucks, dump trucks, pavers, rollers, brooms, pugmills, skid steers, pickup trucks, etc.

Essential Functions

  • Maintains knowledge to diagnose and repair mechanical problems on heavy equipment and light equipment as required.
  • Performs repair or preventative maintenance on diesel and gasoline vehicles, including rollers, chippers, on highway trucks, oil distributors, and other vehicles to maximize safe and productive operations. Typical repairs and maintenance would include work on engines, transmissions, chassis, drivelines and body components, hydraulics, brakes, electrical/electronic and suspension systems, wheels, tires, and undercarriages.
  • Reads and interprets equipment condition reports and/or repair orders, communicates with the supervisor and/or operator for clarification of defects and discusses preventative techniques with operators to minimize future repairs.
  • Uses hand and power tools, prepares and moves tools around jobsites.
  • Travel to varying job sites for repair work.
  • Communicate with management and staff on conditions of equipment, as well as any possible improvements or ideas.
  • Collaborates with assigned work crews, shares information with coworkers about work plan.
  • Perform needed hot work, including welding and cutting.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned, including but not limited to continuously growing in alignment with the Company’s core values, competencies, and skills.

Education Qualifications

  • Required High School or Equivalent.
  • Vocational/Trade School 2-year technical degree or comparable equivalent.

Experience Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience in heavy construction, road construction equipment industry or a related field required.

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient with a computer, including the use of Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and diagnostic use, using manufacturer provided programs.
  • Welding and/or fabrication skills and/or experience preferred.
  • Ability to be trained to complete tasks in a safe and effective manner.
  • Ability to communicate orally, in writing, and basic mathematical skills.
  • Must maintain regular, dependable attendance and a high level of performance.
  • Follow written and verbal directions to complete assigned tasks on schedule.
  • Participate in safety briefings, job briefings, and any other pass on information from team members, management or customer.
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction and follow work rules, as well as, take on additional job responsibilities as needed or assigned.
  • Must be capable of working with limited supervision/self-starter.
  • Flexibility required; ability to work days, nights, weekends.
  • Perform all work in compliance with Company standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • CDL required.
  • Technical certification or ASE's helpful.

Evergreen Roadworks Pay Transparency
The anticipated hiring compensation range for this role, dependent upon qualifications and experience is: $25-$30/Hour.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

  • Must have the ability to continuously stand or walk on level or uneven ground.
  • Must have the ability to perform repairs on the job site potentially in live traffic.
  • Must have the ability to bend, crouch and/or kneel at waist or knees.
  • Must have the ability to push, pull, twist, carry and lift up to 70lbs.
  • Ability to work outside the majority of the time and withstand extreme weather conditions. Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by the weather.
  • Continuous exposure to a variety of extreme conditions at construction sites, including heights, moving vehicles, stopped traffic.
  • Indoor garage conditions that include regular exposure to noise, including horns, mechanical equipment, heavy equipment, moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes and airborne particles.
  • Climbs in, out and under equipment; lays or stands under equipment.
  • Uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support overtime without fatigue.
  • Uses good manual dexterity and multi limb coordination with the ability to quickly move arms and legs.
  • Possess excellent stamina to work between 8-12 hours per day.
  • Must be able to pass a drug test.
