Job description

Diesel Mechanic

Location: Marshall, MI

Position: Summer Help!

Shift: Mon - Friday, 1st Shift

Pay: $23 per hour

Hours: 1st Monday - Friday

Requirements:

• Servicing gasoline and diesel-powered buses, from basic maintenance and minor repairs to full vehicle service.
• Diagnose mechanical defects and carry out preventive maintenance programs.
• Perform major and minor overhauls of engines and transmissions.
• Service and maintain brakes, air compressors, fuel systems, ignitions, HVAC systems, and wheelchair lifts.
• Service and maintain vehicle air conditioning units.
• Inspect and repair school buses according to DOT requirements.
• Keep records of time and materials used.

Education and Work Experience:

• Experience with medium-duty buses; International Truck/Bus preferred.
• Must have own set of tools.
• Knowledge of codes and laws related to pupil transportation (e.g., IDOT inspections).
• CDL Class B License with air brake endorsement preferred.
• A/C Certification.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with customers and team members.
• Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain a positive attitude while providing excellent customer service.
• Ability to work independently and complete assignments timely.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to perform essential job functions safely and successfully, complying with ADA, FMLA, and other standards.
• Maintain regular, punctual attendance.
• Clear communication skills, including talking, listening, and speaking on the phone.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
