Job summary

TransChicago Truck Group is seeking an experienced Diesel Technician at the Aurora, IL dealership to diagnose and repair vehicle systems across powertrains, electrical, HVAC, fuel, emissions, brakes, steering and hydraulics.

You will remove, repair, overhaul, and replace assemblies, perform machine shop operations, and maintain comprehensive service records while ensuring safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of diesel technician experience preferred.
• Certifications for Detroit, Cummins, Freightliner or Total Truck Care preferred.
• Strong diagnostic and repair skills across major systems.
• Attention to detail and documentation skills.
• Ability to read and follow technical publications.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair vehicle deficiencies across power trains, electrical, HVAC, fuel, emissions, brakes, steering, and hydraulics.
• Remove, repair, overhauls, and replace assemblies and components; perform machine shop operations and precision adjustments.
• Complete preventive maintenance schedules; update service records.
• Test drive and verify vehicle performance; ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Maintain shop equipment and inventory; identify cost-saving options.
• Support the team by adopting best practices and seeking ways to add value.

We're looking for a Diesel Technician at our Aurora, IL dealership to diagnose and repair vehicle deficiencies across all major systems—power trains, electrical, HVAC, fuel, emissions, brakes, steering, and hydraulics. Responsibilities include removing, repairing, overhauling, and replacing assemblies and components, plus performing machine shop operations and precision adjustments to bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, linkages, clutches, and traction units.

Key Functions & Responsibilities:

• Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts.
• Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures.
• Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
• Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
• Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting.
• Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
• Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
• Contains costs by using warranty; evaluating service and parts options.
• Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.
• Enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Required Experience:

• 10+ years of industry experience preferred
• Certifications for Detroit, Cummins, Freightliner or Total Truck Care preferred

Compensation & Benefits:

• Compensation: $30/hr-$43/hr. Compensation will be determined based on experience, competencies, certifications, and education.
