Job summary

The City of Denton seeks an experienced mechanic in the Fleet Department to repair and maintain gasoline and diesel vehicles and assorted equipment. You will perform complex diagnostics, repair heavy-duty systems, and install fleet electronics, while keeping detailed service records.

Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, safety inspections, and collaborating with other city teams to ensure vehicle readiness. ASE certification and four years’ experience are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• A count of four years in automotive/heavy-duty repair is expected.
• Must hold ASE Certification and be able to obtain relevant TX safety licenses.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diagnostic work on refuse trucks and related equipment.
• Troubleshoot electrical circuits and CAN-bus systems; repair sensors and camera systems.
• Install in-car video, radios, and GPS units; conduct preventive maintenance per DOT/OSHA rules.
• Maintain records of work, parts, and labor in Fleet Management software.
