Job Title: Diesel Mechanic – Second Shift (3:30pm-12:00am)

Location: Butler, Wisconsin

Company: Interstate Power Systems

We are seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our second shift team (3:00 PM - 12:00 PM) to perform maintenance and repairs on heavy-duty trucks and equipment. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in diesel engine diagnostics, repair, and preventative maintenance, ensuring our fleet operates safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, and electrical systems on heavy-duty trucks and equipment.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance, including oil changes, tire rotations, and fluid checks.
  • Conduct thorough inspections to identify mechanical issues and ensure compliance with DOT regulations.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot complex engines and system failures.
  • Repair or replace defective parts, components, or systems using hand and power tools.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance, and parts used in compliance with company policies.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to prioritize tasks and minimize equipment downtime.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
  • Occasionally assist with emergency roadside repairs during shift hours.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman-level certification or equivalent experience as a diesel mechanic (5+ years preferred).
  • In-depth knowledge of heavy-duty truck and equipment systems, including Cummins, Detroit, or Caterpillar engines.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools (e.g., Cummins Insite, Detroit Diagnostic Link) and repair manuals.
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently during second shift hours (3:00 PM - 12:00 PM).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Physical ability to lift to 50 lbs., bend, and stand for extended periods.
  • Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
  • Must provide own basic tools; specialty tools provided by the company.

Education And Training

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of a diesel mechanic apprenticeship or technical training program.
  • ASE certifications (e.g., T2-T8 series) strongly preferred.

Work Environment

  • Second shift schedule: 3:00 PM – 12:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime work as needed.
  • Work performed in a shop environment with exposure to noise, grease, and heavy equipment.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) provided and required.
