Job summary

Midwest Transit Equipment seeks a qualified Full Time Diesel Mechanic for our Gary, IN location. The role involves servicing gasoline and diesel buses and vans, with safety-sensitive duties and potential overtime. A company service truck may be used in the field.

The candidate should have 4+ years of medium-duty bus experience, 100% manufacturer training certifications (Cummins, Navistar, Braun), and own tools. CDL B with air brake endorsement and A/C certification are required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the provisions of codes and laws relating to pupil transportation (i.e.DOT inspections).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
• Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose mechanical defects and carry out a preventive maintenance program.
• Major overhaul of engines and transmissions.
• Service and maintain brakes, air compressors, fuel systems, ignitions, HVAC systems and Wheelchair lifts.
• Service and maintain vehicle air conditioning units.
• Inspects and repairs school buses per DOT requirements.
• Keep records of time and materials used.
• Utilize and working knowledge of all Manufacturing Partners Diagnostic Software and Portals; ex Navistar.
• Working knowledge of all products serviced by Company including but not limited to Navistar IC Bus and supplier products.

Who we are looking for:

We are looking for Diesel Mechanic Technician. The Service Tech repairs gas and diesel buses and vans. This position requires technical knowledge of light duty truck and medium duty bus maintenance and repair procedures. This is an hourly position with the possibility of overtime. When working in the Field, they will have a company service truck.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Servicing of gasoline and diesel powered buses from basic maintenance and minor repairs to full vehicle service. This is a safety-sensitive position. Employees holding this position are responsible for the safe performance of the job duties.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

• 4+ years Medium duty bus experience, International Truck/Bus preferred
• 100% certification for all Manufacturer training requirements including but not limited to Cummins, Navistar, and Braun
• Must have own set of tools
• Knowledge of the provisions of codes and laws relating to pupil transportation (i.e.DOT inspections)
