Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. in Wilmington, NC is looking for a Diesel Mechanic to maintain a diverse fleet of diesel and CNG vehicles, performing preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and complex repairs in a fast-paced shop.

You will work with shop leadership and senior mechanics, handle DOT inspections, brake and A/C service, road tests, and keep accurate work orders while adhering to OSHA and GFL safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in heavy-duty diesel and/or CNG fleet maintenance.
  • Brake Safety Certificate and EPA Section 609 A/C Certification required.
  • Proficiency with electronic diagnostic software and basic computer systems.
  • Valid Class A or B CDL strongly preferred (or willingness to obtain within 6 months). ASE certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Fleet Diagnostics & Repair: Diagnose, service, and repair diesel engines, CNG systems, hydraulics, and electrical components.
  • Inspections: Conduct DOT and brake inspections for safety compliance across fleet vehicles.
  • Brake & AC Service: Perform brake repairs and service A/C systems using diagnostic software.
  • Road Testing: Test-drive trucks to diagnose issues and confirm repairs.
  • Shop & Administrative Duties: Log work orders, manage parts inventory, maintain clean bays, follow OSHA and safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities


  • Fleet Diagnostics & Repair: Diagnose, service, and repair diesel engines, CNG systems, hydraulics, and electrical components.

  • Inspections: Conduct thorough DOT and brake inspections to ensure full safety compliance across all fleet vehicles.

  • Brake & AC Service: Perform routine and complex brake system repairs and service A/C systems using standard electronic diagnostic software.

  • Road Testing: Test-drive trucks as needed to accurately diagnose issues and confirm repairs.

  • Shop & Administrative Duties: Log work orders, manage parts inventory, maintain clean work bays, and adhere strictly to OSHA and GFL safety protocols.


Qualifications & Requirements


  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in heavy-duty diesel and/or CNG fleet maintenance.

  • Tech Savvy: Proficiency with electronic diagnostic software and basic computer systems.

  • Safety First: Working knowledge of DOT and OSHA regulations, with a strong commitment to shop safety.


Physical Demands


  • Ability to stand, bend, climb ladders, and maneuver in tight shop spaces for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly and push/pull up to 100 lbs.

  • Comfortable operating heavy equipment, power tools, and computerized diagnostic units.
