Qualifications

  • 3+ years diesel mechanic experience preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair fire apparatus and emergency equipment.
  • Conduct inspections and diagnostic tests on vehicles.
  • Complete scheduled preventative maintenance on trucks.

Job description

Position: Diesel Mechanic/Service Technician (Zone 1)

Full-Time/Part-Time: Full-Time

Shift: First

Exempt/Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt

Description

The Service Technician will diagnose and repair fire apparatus and emergency equipment while being an indispensable resource to our customers, creating a lasting competitive advantage for our products and services.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Diagnose all service-related problems for apparatus customers
  • Determine vehicle conditions by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts
  • Read and interpret diagnostic test results from diagnostic equipment
  • Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications
  • Inspect, repair, and maintain automotive and mechanical equipment and machinery, such as pumps and compressors
  • Recondition and replace parts, pistons, bearings, gears, brakes and valves
  • Adjust brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment
  • Complete scheduled preventative maintenance on trucks, such as hose testing, pump testing and ladder testing
  • Assist with or complete repairs such as leaks and pump packing
  • Verify vehicle performance by conducting driving tests; adjusting controls and systems
  • Install equipment on new apparatus prior to delivery
  • Keep job knowledge updated by participating in continued training and educational opportunities
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of machines and tools including their designs, uses, benefits, repairs and maintenance
  • Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions, such as outside in the rain, cold, heat, humidity, etc.
  • Must be able to work in noisy environments, around engines and apparatus
  • Must be able to bend or stoop, kneel and climb ladders for long periods of time; must also be able to lift up to 50 lbs., approximately 10% of the day
  • Must be able to travel overnight as needed
Requirements
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Must have a CDL Class B driver’s license or ability to obtain one
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Certified Medical Examiner’s Health Certificate
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen
Preferred Skills
  • 3+ years diesel mechanic experience
  • ASE and EVT certifications
  • Electrical, A/C and diagnostic experience
  • Experience in fire and safety industry
  • Experience with NetSuite or Oracle Platform ERP
  • Knowledge of fire Industry, specifically related to parts and repairs
