Overview
We are seeking a skilled Journeyman Diesel Mechanic to join our second shift team (3:30 PM - 12:00 AM) to perform maintenance and repairs on heavy-duty trucks and equipment. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in diesel engine diagnostics, repair, and preventative maintenance, ensuring our fleet operates safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, and electrical systems on heavy-duty trucks and equipment.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance, including oil changes, tire rotations, and fluid checks.
- Conduct thorough inspections to identify mechanical issues and ensure compliance with DOT regulations.
- Utilize diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot complex engine and system failures.
- Repair or replace defective parts, components, or systems using hand and power tools.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance, and parts used in accordance with company policies.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to prioritize tasks and minimize equipment downtime.
- Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
- Occasionally assist with emergency roadside repairs during shift hours.
Qualifications
- Journeyman-level certification or equivalent experience as a diesel mechanic (5+ years).
- In-depth knowledge of heavy-duty truck and equipment systems, including Cummins, Detroit, or Caterpillar engines.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools (e.g., Cummins Insite, Detroit Diagnostic Link) and repair manuals.
- Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred but not required.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently during second shift hours (3:30 PM - 12:00 AM).
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs., bend, and stand for extended periods.
- Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
- Must provide own basic tools; specialty tools are provided by the company.
Education and Training
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Completion of a diesel mechanic apprenticeship or technical training program.
- ASE certifications (e.g., T2-T8 series) are strongly preferred.
Work Environment
- Second shift schedule: 3:30 PM – 12:00 AM, Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime as needed.
- Work performed in a shop environment with exposure to noise, grease, and heavy equipment.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided and required.
