Job description

Alaska Marine Lines is seeking an experienced diesel mechanic. Are you skilled in working on diesel engines and looking for a new challenge?

We are hiring a heavy equipment diesel mechanic who values job stability and excellent benefits, with a career path leading to retirement. This is a safety-sensitive position working the night shift from Tuesday to Friday, 2:00 pm to 12:30 am.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose and repair company equipment using specialized tools, meters, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Perform preventative maintenance to ensure equipment reliability.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace parts in engines, transmissions, differentials, brakes, and other equipment.
  • Observe, listen to, and operate mechanical devices to identify causes of trouble or signs of failure.
  • Install new systems as designed or modified by the company.
  • Adjust or repair hydraulic systems and components.
  • Travel to Alaska twice a year as required for varied durations.
  • Own basic hand tools common to the trade and acquire additional tooling as needed, maintaining company-provided tools properly.
  • Follow all safety policies, including the use of protective equipment and Fit for Work policies.
Qualifications:

  • Journey-level mechanic with at least 4 years of related experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and repair methods, materials, and equipment for heavy machinery, lift trucks, tractors, hostlers, and similar equipment.
  • AA certificate in Diesel Technology from college or vocational/technical school preferred.
