Job summary

First Student is seeking a Diesel Mechanic II in Newark, DE to keep school buses in safe, reliable condition. You will perform repairs and preventive maintenance on our fleet, with a Monday–Friday day schedule and a starting pay of $30.00–$31.00 per hour based on experience.

We offer a $2,500 hiring bonus, company-paid ASE testing and CDL Class B training, and a strong benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and a 401(k) match.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of diesel or automotive maintenance/repair experience or equivalent technical school education.
• Vehicle diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• CDL Class B or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment; company-paid training.
• Possession of a mechanic’s tool set.
• Willingness to participate in ASE certification program (training, testing, bonuses provided).
• Strong computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair school buses to ensure safety and reliability.
• Diagnose and perform all phases of vehicle maintenance including brakes, engine tune-ups, suspensions, drive trains, and transmissions.
• Perform preventive maintenance, safety inspections, and annual inspections.
• Complete work orders accurately.
• Assist with mobile emergency repair services when needed.
