Job summary

WM is seeking a Diesel Mechanic in Chicago to diagnose, repair, and maintain trucks and equipment. You will work under general supervision, document repairs, and ensure safety and quality workmanship. The role involves testing systems, training other technicians, and meeting standard repair times.

Starting base pay is $43.41 per hour with a sign-on bonus and benefits. You will work Monday–Friday with occasional Saturdays in a shop setting, supporting WM's extensive fleet across the USA.

Qualifications

• 2 years as a mechanic technician working on heavy equipment/trucks or similar role, preferably in a diesel, automotive, construction, or industrial setting.
• 2 years inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing trucks and stationary equipment.
• Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located.
• Valid Driver's License Upon Hire.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain a variety of vehicles and mechanical equipment.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with OSHA standards and safety procedures.
• Document work and parts usage in fleet maintenance software, including labor hours and diagnostics.
• Test and adjust vehicle systems, calibrate sensors, and ensure proper functionality.
• Assist senior mechanics and review or assign repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
