Job summary

Great Lakes Petroleum Co. is seeking a skilled fleet mechanic to perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on diesel trucks and related equipment at our Birmingham facility.

Responsibilities include diagnosing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic issues, servicing brakes, suspensions, transmissions, steering, and emissions systems, and documenting all work performed with accuracy. Safety, teamwork, and timely communication are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • CDL preferred, or ability to obtain and maintain a CDL within company-established timeframe after hire.
  • Experience servicing air brake and/or hydraulic brake systems required.
  • Experience diagnosing diesel-powered vehicles and equipment preferred.
  • Ability to safely use diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and shop equipment to perform maintenance and repairs.
  • Basic personal mechanic's tools required; specialty tools provided by the company.

Description
  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on diesel fuel trucks, boom trucks, and related equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and drivability issues to ensure safe and reliable vehicle operation.
  • Service and repair brake systems, suspensions, transmissions, steering components, and emissions systems.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair fuel pumping and fuel transfer equipment installed on trucks.
  • Review and respond to Vehicle Condition Reports (VCRs), completing all required maintenance and repairs in a timely manner.
  • Accurately document inspections, maintenance, repairs, and parts used in accordance with company procedures.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area while following all company safety policies and applicable regulations.
  • Use diagnostic tools, hand tools, and specialized equipment to efficiently identify and resolve equipment issues.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and operations personnel regarding equipment status, repair needs, and maintenance schedules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support fleet maintenance operations.

Requirements
