Job summary

Union Pacific Railroad is seeking Apprentice Diesel Electricians to train in the inspection, repair, and maintenance of electrical components on diesel-electric locomotives under a journeyman's guidance. You will work in locomotive shops to diagnose issues, perform repairs, and complete maintenance as part of a team dedicated to safe, reliable rail service.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license.
• Computer experience with basic keyboarding skills.
• Able to understand and apply basic mechanical principles.
• Experience reading and understanding instructions (bulletins, safety rules, etc).
• Must successfully complete an English assessment before interview.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled electrical inspections and circuit tests of locomotive components.
• Diagnose issues and perform maintenance on electrical systems in locomotive cabs or electrical compartments.
• Troubleshoot and coordinate work activities, determine equipment needs and develop sequences to complete tasks.
• Work with shop machinery, equipment, and tools.
• Share technical information verbally and in writing with coworkers and supervisors.
• Ensure compliance with FRA safety rules and regulations.
