Summary

The Service Technician at Nextran Truck Centers is a skilled position that is responsible for repairing and maintaining our customers’ Medium & Heavy-Duty Trucks. This includes preventative maintenance, repairs, disassembly, and reassembly, and writing detailed work notes.

Essential Duties
  • Perform work as outlined on the repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
  • Diagnose the cause of malfunctions and perform repairs.
  • Communicate with the parts department to obtain needed parts.
  • Save and tag parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
  • Document all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
  • Report machinery defects or malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Ensure that the vehicle is kept clean, and notify the service advisor/dispatcher immediately of any changes to appearance or condition.
  • Maintain and be accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals; return them to the proper place and in the same condition as received.
  • Understand, stay abreast of, and comply with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal and OSHA Right-to-Know, and keep abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
  • Operate all tools/equipment safely and report any safety issues immediately to management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Two+ years of diesel mechanic experience.
  • ASE or Cummins Engine Repair Certificate is a plus.
  • English proficiency essential for understanding safety protocols, customer interactions, and internal communications.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Valid CDL License a plus, recommended within 1 year of hiring.
Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percentage, draw, and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations with limited resources. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Additional Responsibilities and Soft Skills
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • Use torque wrenches and air powered tools or hand tools.
  • Use of arms in a raised position above shoulder level for prolonged periods of time. Use of creeper or rolling device to enable tech to work underneath vehicle.
  • Frequently required to walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
  • Required to stand and sit for extended periods of time while making repairs.
  • Entry or exit from the cab of the vehicle.
  • Climb to a safe position to access the engine compartment area, firewall or roof of a vehicle to perform repairs.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to push/pull large tool chest from vehicle to vehicle.
