Job summary

Nextran Truck Centers in Cheyenne, WY seeks a Diesel Technician for our Engine Shop. You will diagnose, repair, and maintain Medium & Heavy-Duty Trucks, perform preventative maintenance, and document work notes. This role may lead the Uptime Team and mentor apprentices.

Three to five years of diagnostic experience are required. A valid driver’s license is needed; master technician certifications are preferred. Starting wage is $25 per hour; pre-employment screenings are required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma and/or GED required.
  • Ten plus years related experience and/or training.
  • Master Technician Certifications in multiple areas.
  • Valid Driver’s License required and/or CDL preferred
  • Basic computer skills

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose issues and perform repairs on Medium & Heavy‑Duty Trucks in the Engine Shop.
  • Lead the Uptime Team and mentor less experienced Technicians when needed.
  • Write detailed work notes and update repair orders.
  • Coordinate with parts and service advisors to ensure timely availability of parts.

Starting Wage: $25 per Hour, based on an individuals skills, certifications, education, and experience.

As a Diesel Technician in our Engine Shop, you are a valued member of our team, responsible for repairing and maintain our customer's Medium & Heavy-Duty Tucks in our Engine Shop. This includes diagnosing issues, preventative maintenance, repairs, disassembly and reassembly and writing detailed work notes. This level of Technician may be requested to lead the Uptime Team, and/or mentor less experienced Technicians.

Technical
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of Diagnostic experience required.
  • Maintain proficiency in the rebuilding of major components such as Engines and Transmissions on assigned equipment.
  • Ensure accurate diagnosis and the effective repair and/or replacement of components necessary for the proper functioning of assigned equipment.
  • Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
  • Communicates with the parts department to obtain needed parts.
  • Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
  • Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
  • Communicates with service advisor/dispatcher immediately on repair updates and or delays.
  • Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
  • Supervises work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.
  • Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Ensures that the vehicle is kept clean. Notifies service advisor/dispatcher immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
  • Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Return them to the proper place and in the same condition as when they were received.
  • Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc. Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
  • Operates all tools/equipment in a safe manner and reports any safety issues immediately to management.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations with only limited resources. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Use of arms in a raised position above shoulder level for prolonged periods of time. Use of creeper or rolling devices to enable tech to work underneath vehicles.
  • The employee frequently is required to walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
  • The employee is required to stand and sit for extended periods of time (hours) while making repairs.
  • Entry or exit from the cab of the vehicle.
  • Climb to a safe position to access the engine compartment area, firewall or roof of a vehicle to perform repairs.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to push/pull large tool chest from vehicle to vehicle.
