Job summary

Ryder is hiring an experienced Mid-Level Diesel Technician in Winston-Salem, NC to work on heavy‑duty vehicles with weekly pay and excellent benefits. Hourly pay is $27.00 per hour, plus certification bonuses and quarterly bonuses up to $500 each quarter. Second shift hours are 2:30 pm – 11:00 pm.

We seek the right maintenance/repair mechanic to join Ryder and work on heavy-duty vehicles; includes PTO from day 1, 401(k) match, tool allowance, and other employee perks. Contact Misty for details.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Vocational or Technical Certification preferred.
• Basic tools required.
• Experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines.
• Routine preventive maintenance incl. oil changes, brake and tire work.
• Two years or more of classroom training and work experience preferred.
• CDL Class A preferred; must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire.
• Pass Ryder drug test, DOT physical, road test, and background checks.

Responsibilities

• Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties.
• Performs standard vehicle maintenance and inspections.
• Performs preventive maintenance as required.
• Diagnoses mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computer when applicable.
• Identifies root causes and performs necessary repairs.
• Interacts with customers/drivers to determine nature of the complaint.
• Uses Shop Management System and electronic documentation.
• Adheres to safety, DOT, MOT, and corporate guidelines.
• Provides other support duties as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Vocational or Technical Certification Post Secondary degree or Technical Certifications, preferred
• Basic tools, required
• Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines including:
• Routine preventative maintenance, which should include oil changes, brake and tire work, required
• Two (2) years or more of a combination of classroom training and work experience in required experience, preferred
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A,preferred
• Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
• Pass a Ryder Drug Test
• Pass a DOT physical
• Pass a Ryder road test
• Pass a Ryder Background and Motor vehicle check including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years

Some positions require additional screening that may include employment and education verification; motor vehicle records check and a road test; and/or badging or background requirements of the customer to which you are assigned.

• Performs preventive maintenance
• Diagnoses standard mechanical and electronic problems, utilizing diagnostic computer when applicable
• Identifies root cause of basic failures/conditions and perform repairs as required
• Interacts with customers/drivers to properly determine nature of complaint once assigned a task
• Utilizes key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation available
• Works in accordance with all federal/ provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT)
• Performs other support duties as required to support operations. These could include but are not limited to Service Island support
