Aerotek is seeking a Mobile Diesel Mechanic for a contract-to-hire position based in Tampa, FL. You will inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel-powered vehicles and trailers, performing maintenance and collaborating with drivers to resolve issues quickly.
This role requires hands-on experience with diesel engines, transmissions, electrical systems, and brakes. Frequent traveling between Tampa and Sarasota may be required; OT is available and safety guidelines must be followed.
This role focuses on inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing diesel-powered vehicles and trailers, ensuring they operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all applicable regulations. You will perform a wide range of mechanical and electrical repairs, conduct routine and scheduled maintenance, and collaborate closely with drivers and team members to resolve vehicle issues promptly.
Examine diesel vehicles and trailers to determine the extent of damage, wear, or malfunction.
Diagnose and repair transmission, engine, electrical, suspension, driveline, HVAC, brake, and air systems.
Repair, replace, and adjust brake systems to ensure safe and reliable operation.
Repair both manual and automatic transmissions as needed.
Replace and adjust headlights and other lighting components to maintain proper visibility and safety.
Communicate with drivers to obtain clear descriptions of vehicle problems and performance issues.
Perform routine and scheduled maintenance services according to established procedures and service intervals.
Review work orders and discuss required work, findings, and priorities with supervisors.
Follow detailed checklists to ensure all critical components and potential trouble areas are thoroughly examined.
Comply with all safety guidelines and regulatory requirements, including DOT and OSHA standards.
Use appropriate tools, equipment, and diagnostic methods to perform repairs efficiently and accurately.
Maintain a clean and organized work area in the diesel shop to support safe and effective operations.
Proven experience in diesel engine repair, including diagnosis and correction of mechanical and electrical issues.
Hands-on experience with trailer repair and maintenance.
Strong skills in diesel maintenance, including routine inspections and scheduled service work.
Ability to diagnose and repair transmission, engine, electrical, suspension, driveline, HVAC, brake, and air systems.
Effective communication skills to clearly discuss vehicle problems with drivers and collaborate with supervisors.
Consistent ability to use hand tools for extended periods of time.
Physical ability to stand for long periods of time while supporting full body weight.
Ability to walk a minimum of 1,000 feet and change positions frequently throughout the workday.
Ability to move shoulders with full range of motion in all six planes of movement.
Ability to reach heights over 72 inches frequently and crouch to a height of 18 inches frequently.
Ability to reach and stretch across the midline with full cervical and bilateral range of motion.
Ability to stoop to a minimum of 30 inches and kneel to a minimum of 18 inches.
Ability to constantly enter and exit trucks using a 51-inch and a 24-inch step while pulling full body weight.
Ability to occasionally push up to 250 lbs, pull up to 125 lbs, frequently push/pull 100/50 lbs, and constantly push/pull 50/25 lbs.
Ability to comply with all DOT and OSHA safety guidelines and shop safety procedures.
Comfort working in a diesel shop environment with heavy equipment and vehicles.
Attention to detail when following checklists and reviewing work orders.
Strong problem-solving skills for identifying root causes of mechanical and electrical issues.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team to complete repairs and maintenance efficiently.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tampa, FL.
The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $35.00/hr.
