Job summary

Aerotek is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to support maintenance and repair of a diverse fleet of heavy-duty vehicles and specialty equipment in Sumner, WA. The role focuses on troubleshooting, servicing, and repairing diesel-powered trucks and related systems to ensure safe operation.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in diesel mechanic work, strong diagnostic abilities, and familiarity with diesel engines, electric controls, hydraulic systems, air brakes, and electrical components.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience working on diesel-powered vehicles, heavy trucks, fleet equipment, or related machinery.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with proven troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Knowledge of diesel engines, electronic controls, hydraulic systems, air brake systems, and electrical components.
  • Experience using diagnostic scanners, meters, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and service manuals.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced shop environment.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Must supply personal hand tools necessary to perform job duties.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and braking system issues on heavy-duty trucks and specialty fleet vehicles.
  • Perform preventative maintenance services, including oil changes, fluid servicing, inspections, and scheduled maintenance repairs.
  • Repair or replace worn, damaged, or defective components using manufacturer guidelines and industry best practices.
  • Utilize diagnostic software, testing equipment, and technical manuals to identify and resolve equipment failures.
  • Support fleet readiness by completing repairs in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Conduct operational and safety inspections on vehicles and equipment.
  • Keep detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs completed, and parts utilized.
  • Assist with inventory tracking and communicate parts needs to management.
  • Work collaboratively with fellow technicians to resolve challenging mechanical issues.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while following all company safety procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, DOT requirements, and applicable industry regulations.
  • Perform additional maintenance and repair duties as assigned.

Diesel Mechanic
Position Overview

The ideal candidate is a hands‑on technician with strong diagnostic abilities and a commitment to quality workmanship.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and braking system issues on heavy‑duty trucks and specialty fleet vehicles.
  • Perform preventative maintenance services, including oil changes, fluid servicing, inspections, and scheduled maintenance repairs.

Preferred Qualifications
  • ASE, EVT, or equivalent technical certifications.
  • Experience maintaining municipal, emergency response, utility, fleet, or vocational vehicles.
  • CDL Class B license with air brake endorsement preferred.
  • Knowledge of pneumatic systems and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Basic welding and fabrication experience.
  • Experience repairing heavy equipment, commercial trucks, chassis systems, and fleet vehicles.
  • Familiarity with electrical diagnostics and wiring repairs.

Work Setting

This position is based in a spacious fleet maintenance facility servicing a wide variety of commercial and specialty vehicles. Technicians work on everything from heavy‑duty trucks and utility equipment to emergency response apparatus. The schedule consists of four 10‑hour shifts beginning in the early morning, providing a three‑day weekend each week, with additional overtime opportunities available based on workload and business needs.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sumner, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $47.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.
